Considered the official beginning of the Carnival Week Celebrations, the parade through the village brings with it the Blessing Of The Wells. This year this will take place on the evening of Wednesday 12th August from 6.30pm onwards. The parade starts at the top of Barlow at St Lawrence's Church and will continue throughout the village with the sounds of The Castleton Silver Band playing throughout, until it reaches the Village Green at the bottom of Valley Rise on the Village Green.
Before this however, the church will open from 10am for morning coffee and refreshments in the marquee and will be serving cream teas and cakes from 2.30-2pm. This years theme is 'British
Sitcoms'. Next, we have a service at 6.30pm from the church where the wonderful flower arrangements will be on show throughout.
There will be more entertainment over the course of the evening with the village Maypole dancers, Morris dancers and of course the food and drink on offer at Award Winning Tickled Trout pub.
The Scarecrow's will be out throughout the village from 9am for judging (winner will be announced on Carnival Saturday) so join the hunt! Maps will be available at the local pubs The Hare & Hounds and The Trout, Hackney House Tea Rooms and The Old Post Office Milcross Lane... hunt wisely - some of them tend to try and hide...!
...And if THAT'S not enough entertainment for your Wednesday evening, it is also the opening night of Barlow Funfair!
So come and join us - this is a night not to be missed!
All week from Wednesday 12th - Tuesday 18th August coffee, tea, cakes and other refreshments will be on offer throughout the village. As detailed above cream teas will be available at St
