Hackney House Cafe & Gifts

Hackney House dates back to the 17th Century making it one of the oldest tea rooms in Derbyshire with exposed stone walls and timber beams gives it a homely feel. Serving breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas as well as home mad pies, quiches and cakes to eat in or takeaway.

Hackney House has even more to offer alongside the great food. A lovely gift shop is spread across two floors, filled with all manner of fashion and home accessories. 
Nestled in the heart of the original village opposite the Main Well Dressing and next to St Lawrence Church, Hackney House offers the perfect pit stop for refreshments whilst enjoying the carnival.

The Hare and Hounds


The Hare and Hounds Inn is a traditional country pub serving a range of beers, Barlow Brewery real ales, soft drinks as well as teas and coffees. The owners, Pauline and Ron have been running the pub for over 30 years! They do not offer food but customers are welcome to bring in their own lunch and pets are also welcome along with muddy boots!

The pub is well known for its welcoming atmosphere and also has a pool table, dart board and beer garden with stunning views overlooking the Caudwell valley. 


Set off the main road the Hare & Hounds is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the Carnival where you can enjoy a drink with family and friends.

The Tickled Trout has recently been refurbished being transformed into a modern dining pub, the motto of the pub is 'Derbyshire Pride, Italian Inspiration' and there is a range of pizza and pasta dishes as well as dayboat fish and more traditional Derbyshire dishes. 

With a large dining area in the conservatory along with a private function room and cosy drinking area, The Tickled Trout is the perfect place to enjoy something to eat or a quiet pint. 

On the main road and opposite the Commonside Well Dressing its the perfect place to enjoy the carnival from. The Blessing of the Wells parade fishes here with maypole dancing on the village green and on Carnival Day you can watch the parade pass by right outside the pub.

Pets are always welcome and nearby woodland offer the perfect place to go walking, just a short walk from the cottages are 8 fishing lakes a mixture of both trout and coarse angling lakes. Why not combine your visit to Barlow Carnival with a spot of fishing?

The Little Trout Holiday Cottage

The Little Trout is a superbly finished holiday cottage nestled in the heart of Barlow - a picturesque village with fantastic views over the breathtaking North Derbyshire countryside and great access to the Peak District.


The cottage is conveniently positioned next door to the award-winning and popular Tickled Trout pub, which offers delicious locally produced food and drink and is privately owned by Chris (also head chef).  After renovating the pub in 2014 Chris and Rachel have turned the cottage next door into a perfect retreat for both couples and families.


The perfect base for walkers, cyclists or those looking for a cosy hideaway, the Little Trout is within easy reach of charming villages, quaint market towns and all the Peak District has to offer.


1 well-behaved dog is welcome (downstairs only).
