Road Closure

To ensure the safety of everyone participating in and watching the parade, road closures will be in effect. North East Derbyshire District Council has approved the closure of certain roads through the village for this event.

 

The main road through Barlow—from Springfield Road to the Peacock—will be closed from 12:45 PM to 2:45 PM on Saturday, 16 August.

 

Please help us make the Carnival safe for all by respecting the road closures and supporting our dedicated volunteers who generously give their time to marshal the parade. If you’re interested in volunteering, please get in touch at info@barlowcarnival.co.uk.

 

We understand that not everyone will be attending the Carnival, so to minimize disruption, a diversion route will be in place around the village. The diversion runs from Four Lane Ends at Cutthorpe to the junction of Far Lane and Bradley Lane. Although the route will be clearly signposted and marshals will be available at both the start and end, we hope the directions below will be helpful.

Diversion - From Chesterfield

The directions below are to be used for people heading from Chesterfield towards Millthorpe and Holmesfield. 

  • At the Four Lane Ends junction turn left onto the Cutthorpe Road (B6050) carry on this road for 2.6 miles passing The 3 Merry Lads Pub, Cutthorpe School and Linacre Reservoirs.
  • Turn right onto Spitewinter Lane and carry on for approximately 0.5 miles.
  •  Turn right onto Buckleather Lane and follow this road for 0.3 miles.
  • Turn right onto Far Lane and carry along this road for approximately 2 miles. 
  • Upon reaching the end of Far Lane turn left onto Bradley Lane (B6051) and carry on towards Millthorpe/ Holmesfield. 

Diversion - From Millthorpe

The directions below are to be used for people heading from Millthorpe/Holmesfield towards Chesterfield.

  • Before entering the village leave Bradley Lane (B6051) and turn right onto Far Lane, carry on for approximately 2 miles.
  • Turn left on Buckleather Lane and carry straight on for 0.3 miles.
  • Turn left on to Spitewinter Lane and follow this road for approximately 0.5miles.
  • At the end of the lane turn left on Cutthorpe Road and carry on for 2.6miles passing  Linacre Reservoirs, Cutthorpe School and The Three Merry Lads pub.
  • At the end of the road turn right to pick up Newbold Road (B6051) towards Chesterfield.
