Well Dressings

13 - 19 August

Experience the Ancient Art of Well Dressing in Barlow

Barlow proudly brings the historic Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing to life, with three beautifully adorned wells on display throughout the village.

Each Well Dressing features a unique, hand-crafted scene created by talented local teams using natural materials such as flower petals, seeds, leaves, grasses, and more—anything that grows! The intricate artwork is built on clay-covered boards and reflects both creativity and centuries of tradition.

These stunning displays truly need to be seen to be believed, and there’s no better place to witness them than in Barlow, where community spirit and craftsmanship come together in spectacular fashion.

Donations collected at each well go toward supporting local charities and good causes, helping to give back to the community.

Join us on Wednesday 13 August to see the traditional Blessing of the Wells service and procession.
