Blessing of the Wells

Wednesday 12 August

Join us as we proudly unveil the beautifully adorned Wells and kick off the Carnival celebrations with the traditional Blessing of the Wells service on Wednesday 12 August.

The festivities begin at 6:30pm  with a special service held at the historic 12th-century Norman Church of St. Lawrence, this year the service will take place outside due to the solar eclipse.

Following the service, a procession led by the Castleton Silver Band will make its way through the village. Along the route, the three Wells and the Fair will be blessed.

To allow for the safe passage of the procession a road closure will be in place from 6.45pm - 8.30pm, full details can be found here.

Before the procession, why not stop by The Peacock for a drink and a bite to eat to get into the festive spirit? Alternatively, you can visit The Tickled Trout, where the procession will conclude.

After the final blessing, enjoy a delightful Maypole dance performance by local children on the village green.
