Most of our events unfold at Barlow Village Hall & Recreation Ground, nestled on Millcross Lane, Barlow, S18 7TA. But don’t worry, once you step into the warm and welcoming village of Barlow, finding the fun is as easy as a summer breeze! The spirit of the carnival fills every corner, guiding you right to the excitement.
The classic funfair, bursting with lights, laughter, and thrilling rides, is perfectly placed just across from the vibrant Carnival field on Millcross Lane.
And don’t miss the enchanting Well Dressings — a beloved Barlow tradition! These stunning, handcrafted displays can be found in several special spots around the village: opposite The Peacock on Hackney Lane, gracing the Village Green across from The Tickled Trout, and beautifully showcased outside the Village Hall on Millcross Lane. Each well dressing is a testament to local creativity and history, inviting you to pause, admire, and soak up the unique charm of Barlow.
No matter where you wander, the magic of Barlow Carnival is never far away. So come along, explore, and let the joyful atmosphere sweep you up in a celebration that truly captures the heart and soul of our community!
Parking
Important Parking and Parade Safety Information
To ensure the Carnival Parade can proceed safely and smoothly, please avoid parking on the Main Road through the village. We’ve placed cones in key areas to keep the route clear, these cones are there for your safety and the success of the parade, so please do not park between them.
We encourage everyone to consider alternative transport options like walking, cycling, public transport, or car-sharing to reduce congestion and help the event run more smoothly.
Please park responsibly and ensure you’re not blocking anyone’s property access.

Smeltinghouse Lane Carpark
Our biggest car park, so head here first!
If you’re arriving from Millthorpe, Dronfield, or Owler Bar, drive through the village until you pass the Fun Fair on your left,take the next left on to Furnace Lane.
Follow the Lane straight on for approximately 150 metres and the the car park will be on your left.
Heading from Chesterfield then drive through the village passing The Peacock at Barlow and Barlow Church, as you approach the Fun Fair Furace Lane will be on your right. Once on the lane follow the directions above.
Pedestrian access for this carpark is available from Millcross Lane, opposite Barlow School, but please do not attempt to enter in a vehicle this way.

Fair Carpark
Located in the heart of the village, next to the fair and opposite the Recreation Ground. This car park fills up quickly and will be closed once full—please don’t rely on parking here after 11:30 AM.

Engine Hollow Carpark
Arriving after 12.45pm then head here! This car park is outside of the road closure so will be accessible at all times.
Approaching the village from Cutthorpe or Chesterfield, you’ll pass Barlow sunflowers, and this car park is just around the corner on the left. It’s a short walk from The Peacock at Barlow, Hackney House Cafe & Gift Shop, and Barlow Church.

Crowhole Carpark
Arriving after 12.45pm then head here! This car park is outside of the road closure so will be accessible at all times.
Car Parking Notice
The car parks have been kindly provided through the generosity of local landowners, for which we are very grateful. Please note that the Barlow Carnival Committee, the landowners, and any tenants accept no responsibility for vehicles or their contents while using these facilities.
Public Transport
While we strive to provide ample parking for all our visitors, please be aware that the influx of people into our small village will cause some challenges.
To make your visit easier and stress-free, why not consider taking the bus? The number 16 bus service, operated by Stagecoach, runs from Dronfield to Chesterfield via Barlow, with a stop just 50 yards from the Carnival Field.

Drop Off Point
We’ve taken your feedback on board and introduced a new Drop-Off Point conveniently located just outside the Village Hall and Carnival Field.
Whether you're arriving by taxi, or being dropped off by friends or family, this designated spot is the ideal place to start your day.
You'll be right in the heart of the action from the moment you arrive. Not only is it a hassle-free way to access the event, but it also helps us keep traffic flowing smoothly throughout the village, making the experience better for everyone.
