Blessing of the Wells - Road Closure

To ensure the safety of everyone participating in and watching the parade, road closures will be in effect. North East Derbyshire District Council has approved the closure of certain roads through the village for this event.

 

The main road through Barlow—from Springfield Road to the Peacock—will be closed from 12:45 PM to 2:45 PM on Saturday 15 August.

 

Please help keep everyone safe  by respecting the road closures and supporting the team of volunteers who generously give their time to ensure this cherished tradition can continue.

 

We understand that not everyone will be attending the Carnival, so to minimize disruption, a diversion route will be in place around the village. The diversion runs from the junction of Hackney Lane and Wilkin hill through to the junction of Far Lane and Bradley Lane. Although the route will be clearly signposted and marshals will be available at both the start and end, we hope the directions below will be helpful.

Diversion - From Chesterfield

The directions below are to be used for people heading from Chesterfield towards Millthorpe and Holmesfield. 

  • At the junction of Hackney Lane and Wilkin Hill, outside the Peacock at Barlow turn left onto Wilkin Hill, carry on this road for 0.9 miles.
  • Slight left toward Wildaygreen Lane.
  •  Turn right onto Wilday Green Lane and follow this road for 0.8 miles.
  • Turn right onto Far Lane and carry along this road for approximately 1 miles. 
  • Upon reaching the end of Far Lane turn left onto Bradley Lane (B6051) and carry on towards Millthorpe/ Holmesfield. 

Diversion - From Millthorpe

The directions below are to be used for people heading from Millthorpe/Holmesfield towards Chesterfield.

  • Before entering the village leave Bradley Lane (B6051) and turn right onto Far Lane, carry on for approximately 1 mile.
  • Turn left on Wildaygreen Lane and carry on this road for 0.8miles
  • Slight left toward Wilkin Hill. 
  • Turn right on to Wilkin Hill and follow this road for approximately 0.9miles.
  • At the end of the road, outside The Peacock at Barlow, turn right to pick up Newbold Road (B6051) towards Chesterfield.
